Date: 2026-02-26 13:00 | Presenter: Marc Durdin

Description:

Keyman is a free, open-source multilingual keyboard system that runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and the web — now supporting over 2,600 languages and 1,550 published keyboards. This webinar covers the latest developments from the Keyman team, including what's new in version 18, what's planned for version 19, and a look at the longer-term roadmap.

  • Version 18 highlights — smoother update installation on Windows, Mac stability and performance improvements, iOS keyboard resizing, faster predictive text on Android, and a simpler Linux installation process that no longer requires patching IBus
  • CLDR keyboard standard — Keyman's role in developing and implementing the open CLDR/LDML keyboard standard for indigenous and minority language support, with growing engagement from major industry vendors
  • Version 19 plans — CLDR keyboard support on mobile devices and web, unified KMX file format for simpler keyboard distribution, autocorrect with automatic corrections, improved keyboard conversion tools, and a refreshed keyman.com interface with multilingual search
  • Future roadmap — larger dictionary support, device contacts integration for smarter suggestions, word-break support for Southeast Asian languages, and website localization
  • Funding and team update — an honest look at budget cuts, team changes, and the project's ongoing commitment to free access for language communities worldwide
